Ingredients
- 2 tbsp - olive oil
- 2 - large onions, chopped
- 3 - cloves garlic, chopped
- 2 pounds - lean ground beef (80/20)
- 1 (12oz) - can tomato paste
- 1 (28oz) - can crushed tomatoes
- 2 tbsp - ground cumin
- 4 tbsp - chili powder
- 1 tbsp - paprika
- 2 tbsp - dijon mustard
- 2 tsp - cinnamon (the secret ingredient)
- 1 tbsp - dried basil
- 2 tsp - salt
- fresh ground pepper
- 1/2 tsp - cayenne pepper
- 2 (16oz) - can kidney beans
- 1 cup - water

Preparation
Step 1
in a large heavy pot or dutch oven saute the onions in the olive oil until glassy, about 10 minutes. add the garlic and cook 30 seconds. add the ground beef, breaking it up, and cook until brown.
drain the kidney beans, add juice to the pot. set the beans aside. stir in all the remaining ingredients and cook, uncovered, for another 15 minutes. add the kidney beans and heat through. adjust the seasonings and serve.
