Sweet and Sour Meatballs by Grandma

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 lbs ground beef
  • 1 egg
  • breadcrumbs
  • salt
  • pepper
  • 14 ounces ketchup
  • water, 1/2 ketchup bottle
  • 1 lemon, juice only
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cabbage, small

Preparation

Step 1

Combine meat, egg, breadcrumbs, ketchup, salt, and pepper to make meatballs. Use a heavy pot and cover bottom with slices of cabbage. Add the following in exact order:
Meatballs, ketchup, water, brown sugar, lemon juice
Cook with lid slightly ajar on stove for 1 hour
Put in oven at 350 for 2 hours. Never stir.
