Mandarin Orange Flank Steak

Ingredients

  • 4 Tbs. peeled and chopped fresh ginger
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup mirin
  • 1 Tbs. sugar
  • 2 lb. flank steak, cut across the grain into strips
  • 1/4 by 1 1/2 inches
  • 2/3 cup plus 1 Tbs. Mandarin orange sauce,
  • warmed*
  • 2 tsp. toasted sesame seeds
  • 1 yellow onion, thinly sliced
  • Steamed white rice for serving

Preparation

In a large bowl, stir together the ginger, soy sauce, mirin and sugar. Addthe steak and stir to coat. Cover and refrigerate for 30 minutes.

Preheat an indoor grill on high heat. Remove the steak from the marinade.Arrange the meat on the grill, leaving some space between the strips toprevent them from steaming. Cook, turning once, until grill marks appear,30 seconds to 1 minute per side for medium-rare, or until done to your liking. Transfer to a platter, brush with the 2D3 cup mandarin orange sauceand sprinkle with the sesame seeds. Cover loosely with aluminum foil.

Arrange the onion slices on the grill in a single layer and cook until browned and soft, about 1 minute. Transfer to a small bowl and toss with the 1 Tbs. mandarin orange sauce.

Place a mound of rice on each plate and top with the steak and onion slices.Serve immediately. Serves 6.
