Homemade Banana Pudding

Ingredients

  • Vanilla Wafers
  • 3 bananas, sliced
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • 3 egg yolks
  • 2 tsp. butter
  • 2 tsp. vanilla
  • 3 egg whites
  • 1/4 cup sugar

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat oven to 350
Line bottom and sides of pan with wafers and then add a layer of banana slices.
To make pudding: In medium saucepan, combine 1 1/2 cups sugar with flour. mix well, then stir in half the milk. Beat egg yolks and whisk into sugar mixture. Add remaining milk and butter. Place over low heat and cook until thickened, stirring frequently. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla. Pour half pudding over wafers and bananas while still hot.
Make another layer with pudding ending on top.
To Make Meringue: In a large glass or metal bowl beat egg whites until foamy. Gradually add sugar and continue to beat until stiff. Spread onto pudding. Bake for 15 minutes, just until browned. Chill before serving.
