Grandma's Gingerbread

Ingredients

  • 1/2 c boiling water
  • 1/2 c shortening
  • 1/2 c sugar
  • 1/2 c molasses or sorghum
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 1/2 c flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ginger

Preparation

Step 1

Pour water over shortening.
Add sugar, molasses, and egg; beat thoroughly.
Add sifted dry ingredients; beat smooth.
Pour into wax-paper lined 8-inch square pan.
Bake 350F for 35 minutes.
