Ingredients
- 1 package yeast
- 2 cups warm water
- 1 Tablespoon sugar
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 4 cups flour
- Butter
Preparation
Step 1
In a large bowl, mix yeast, water, sugar, and salt until yeast is dissolved. Add in approximately 4 cups bread flour and blend well.
Put flour mix on a floured plate and clean mixing bowl. Butter the bowl and return the flour mixture to the bowl. Cover with a damp towel and let it rise in a warm place for 45 minutes.
Butter a cookie sheet, then coat with cornmeal. Divide the flour mix into two parts and make two oblong loaves and put on the cookie sheet. Let rise for another 45 minutes.
Preheat oven to 425. Coat loaves with melted butter and bake at 425 for 10 minutes. Then reduce the temperature to 375 and bake for 20 more minutes or until the loaves are golden brown.
Remove from oven and brush loaves with melted butter.
