Frosting for Cake

Family favorite recipe, variation from recipe from Joanne. Similar to Wilton Recipe.

Ingredients
- Variation:
- 3/4 cup shortening (or butter, or combination of each)
- 2 tsp vanilla (or to taste)
- 6 cups powdered sugar (1 1/2 pound)
- 1/3 cup water (or as needed for desired consistency)
- Note: may add more sugar and water for more frosting
- 3/4 cup cocoa powder added to make chocolate frosting
Preparation
Step 1
Blend shortening and vanilla. Add water and sugar alternating, a little at a time. Add food coloring if desired.
Add more sugar and water for more frosting.
To make chocolate frosting add cocoa powder & additional water as needed.
Large batch--frosts 2 layer cake generously.
