Sausages with Sauerkraut Steamed in Beer

Ingredients

  • 2 cups beer or cider
  • 6 to 12 assorted sausages or bratwurst
  • 1 apple or pear, peeled and sliced
  • 1 teaspoon caraway seeds
  • 1 teaspoon celery seeds
  • 2 cups sauerkraut, washed and squeezed
  • Assorted mustards

Preparation

Step 1

In a large pot with a steaming basket insert, bring beer to a boil.

Place sausages in steaming basket. Cover with apple slices and seeds, and top with sauerkraut. Cover and steam for 8 to 10 minutes, or until sausages are cooked through. Remove sausage and sauerkraut mixture from pot and serve with assorted mustards.
