  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 5 or 6 slices day-old French or other bread
  • 1 tbsp cooking oil

Step 1

Beat the eggs lightly, then combine with the milk, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt. Pour into a flat-bottomed dish somewhat larger than the slices of bread. Dip the bread into the mixture - both sides, restirring after each slice. Do not soak. Place bread on a plate and let stand for a few minutes. In a medium skillet, heat about 1 tbsp oil over med-high heat. Cook bread for 2-3 min each side. If needed, add more oil for 2nd batch
