By

This is a recipe my friend from work gave me. I changed the amount of meat from 1 to 2 lbs for a meatier sauce. for a less meatier sauce use 1/2 lb of each meat or 1 lb of lean beef.

  • 40 mins
  • 180 mins

Ingredients

  • 1 lb Lean ground beef
  • 1 lb lean ground pork
  • 1 Tbsp olive oil
  • 2 large cans plain tomato sauce
  • 2 med cans crushed tomatoes
  • 1 med can tomato paste
  • 1 red bell pepper
  • 1 large onion
  • 4 garlic cloves
  • 5 slices bacon (optional) cut into small piece, cooked and drained
  • 2 shredded carrots
  • 1/2 handful FRESH thyme
  • 1/2 handful FRESH oregano
  • 1/2 handful FRESH basil
  • 2 Tbsp sugar
  • salt, pepper to taste

Preparation

Step 1

Salt the meat, brown in olive oil, set aside.

Cut pepper and onion into small pieces.

Salt the onions pepper and garlic together.

Combine meat, carrots, onions, pepper, garlic and bacon (optional} and mix with a Non-metalic spoon.

Add the herbs and all the tomatoes to the meat vegetable mixture.

Add 2 cans water, using the large can.

Simmer on med low for about 3 hours mixing occasionally. Add sugar to cut down the acidity of the tomatoes.

The sauce will thicken and reduced by a quarter (25%) when done.
