Rustic Italian Bread

Ingredients

  • 1 c. warm water..110 degrees
  • 2 Tbsp. olive oil
  • 3 c. Bread flour
  • 2 Tsp. sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 pkg. yeast.
  • cornmeal
  • 1 egg white, beaten

Preparation

Step 1

Place all ingredients into bread machine, except cornmeal and egg,according to manufacturers directions. Process on dough setting.
Sprinkle ungreased cookie sheet with cornmeal. At end of dough cycle, remove dough from machine, place in lightly floured surface. Punch dough down. (if dough is sticky, knead in more flour). Cover dough with a clean cloth; let rest for 15 minutes. Shape dough into baguette shaped loaf, about 12" long. Place loaf on cornmeal coated cooked sheet. Cover; let it rise in warm place for 20-25 minutes or until light and doubled in size.
Heat over to 375. With sharp knife make1 deep lengthwise slash in top of loaf. Brush with egg white. Bake for 25-35 minutes or until loaf sounds hollow whe lightly tapped.
