Crunchy Caramel Apple Pie

Ingredients

  • 1 pastry crust, for a deep dish 9 inch pie
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 3 tablespoons flour
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 6 cups apples, peeled and thinly sliced
  • Crumb topping
  • 1/2 cup pecans, chopped
  • 1/4 cup caramel topping
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup quick, cooking rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup butter

Step 1

Crumb topping:
1. Stir together brown sugar, flour and rolled oats
2. Cut in butter until topping is like coarse crumbs. Set aside

Directions:
1. In a large mixing bowl, stir together sugar, flour, cinnamon and salt.
2. Add apple slices and gently toss until coated.
3. Transfer apple mixture to the pie shell.
4. Sprinkle crumb topping over apple mixture.
5. Place pie on a cookie sheet so the drippings don't drip into your oven.
6. Cover with aluminum foil.
7. Bake in a preheated 375 oven for 25 minutes. Remove foil and return to oven for another 25-30 minutes.
8. Remove from oven. Sprinkle pie with chopped pecans and then drizzle with caramel.
9. Cool on a wire rack and then enjoy at room temperature or warm.
