Old-Fashioned Gingerbread

This recipe smells wonderful baking in my crock pot. This recipe is made in an accessory called Bread 'n Cake pan that I got with my Rival crock-pot. You could check the company website for availability. It makes delicious moist gingerbread that my family raves about. This recipe lends itself well to freezing. When cool, just wrap, label and freeze for up to 3 months.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter or margarine
  • 1/2 cup
  • sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup light molasses
  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp
  • cinnamon
  • 2 tsp ginger
  • 1/2 tsp ground cloves
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup hot water

Preparation

Step 1

With electric mixer, cream butter and sugar. Add egg, molasses and dry ingredients; blend well. Add hot water and beat well. Pour batter into greased and floured Bread ' n Cake Bake pan and cover. Bake covered in Crock-pot on high setting for 3-4 hours. Do not check or remove cover until last hour of baking. Let stand 5 minutes. Unmold on cake rack.
