Ingredients
- CAKE:
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 1 3/4 c. sugar
- 2 eggs
- 2 1/4 c. flour
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1/2 c. cocoa
- 1/2 c. buttermilk
- 1/2 tsp. vanilla
- 1/4 tsp. baking soda
- 1 c. boiling water
- FROSTING:
- 1 1/2 c. sugar
- 2 tbsp. cocoa
- Evaporated milk
- 1/2 tsp. vanilla

Step 1
CAKE
Cream the shortening and sugar
Add the eggs and beat.
Add flour, salt, cocoa, buttermilk, and vanilla and beat.
Mix baking soda and boiling water; stir into cake batter only enough to blend.
Bake at 350 degrees for 35 minutes in 9 x 13 cake pan.
FROSTING
Blend sugar and cocoa. Add enough evaporated milk to stir. Boil about 1 1/2 minutes. Add vanilla. Apply to cooled cake.
