Ingredients
- Stovetop:
- 2 teaspoons kosher salt
- 1 qt. water
- 1 cup stone-ground grits
- 2 1/2 tablespoons butter
- Overnight Slow-Cooker:
- 2 cups stone-ground grits
- 1/2 cup butter, melted
- 1 tablespoon kosher salt
- 6 cups water
Preparation
Step 1
Stovetop:
Bring salt and water to a boil in a heavy saucepan over high heat. Whisk in grits, and cook, whisking constantly, 45 seconds. Return to a boil; cover and reduce heat to medium-low. Cook 20 to 25 minutes or until tender. Stir in butter. Serve immediately. (For the creamiest grits, stir in 1 cup 1/2 and 1/2, and up to 1 cup cream, a bit at a time, to suit taste.
Overnight Slow-Cooker:
Stir together grits, melted butter, and salt in a 5-qt. slow cooker; stir in water. Cover and cook on LOW 8 hours. Stir just before serving.
