Ingredients

  • Cake:
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 cups (or more) apples, chopped and diced.
  • Topping:
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup nuts

Preparation

Step 1

Heat oven to 350 degrees.
Cream sugars, shortening, and eggs. In a separate bowl, sift together flour, salt, baking soda; add cinnamon and nutmeg. Mix milk and apples with the first mixture. Add dry ingredients and mix well. Pour into a 9x13 inch greased pan. Mix the topping ingredients together and sprinkle over the cake. Bake for 35-40 minutes.
