Mom's Spaghetti Sauce

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons EVOO (extra virgin olive oil)
  • 2 pound ground round beef
  • 1 pound hot Italian sausage
  • 1 pound sweet Italian sausage
  • 2 large onions, chopped
  • 1 celery stalk, coarsely chopped
  • 1 carrot, coarsely chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 5 large cans tomato paste
  • 10 tomato paste cans water
  • 2 large cans diced tomatoes drained, reserve liquid to thin sauce if needed
  • 4 tablespoons Parmesan
  • 1 teaspoons salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 6 leaves fresh basil or 1 tablespoon dried basil
  • 1 tablespoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 4 tablespoons Italian seasoning (I get it from Sam’s)
  • 2 tablespoons crushed red pepper
  • 2 bay leaves

Preparation

Step 1

In a large saucepan over medium heat add EVOO, saute the ground beef, and sausage until it is brown. Drain off excess fat. Add the remaining ingredients and stir until smooth. Cook for 3 to 4 hours on medium heat, stirring often to prevent scorching.

Sauce should be thick, if too thick add water or tomato liquid, too thin let it cook down further.
