Frozen Hot Chocolate

Ingredients

  • 3 ounces {85 grams} high quality chocolate
  • 2 tsp hot chocolate powder
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 1/4 cup vanilla or chocolate ice cream
  • 3 cups ice cubes
  • whipped cream, chocolate shavings, chocolate sauce to top {optional}

Preparation

Step 1

Melt chocolate in the microwave on LOW {or defrost}. It is very important that you do not overcook the chocolate - start with 1 minute, stir, and then continue in 30 second intervals, stirring well in between.
Mix in the hot chocolate and sugar. Stir until well blended.
Add ½ cup milk and stir until smooth. Cool to room temperature.
In a blender, combine ice, milk, ice cream, and chocolate mixture {NOTE: If you do not have a powerful blender, you will likely need to dislodge the ice cubes frequently until they start to become crushed}. Blend until smooth.
Top with whipped cream, chocolate shavings or chocolate sauce.
