Ingredients
- 18 medium fresh strawberries
- 1 cup (6 ounces) vanilla chips
- 3-1/2 teaspoons shortening,
- divided
- 1-1/3 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
- Pastry bag or small heavy-duty resealable plastic bag
- #2 pastry tip, optional
Preparation
Step 1
Line a tray or baking sheet with waxed paper; set aside. Wash strawberries
and pat until completely dry. In the top of a double boiler over simmering water or in a microwave safe bowl, melt vanilla chips and 1-
1/2 teaspoons shortening.
Dip each strawberry until two-thirds is coated, forming the "shirt" (see Fig. I), allowing excess to drip off. Place on prepared tray; chill 30 minutes or until set.
Melt chocolate Chips and remaining shortening. To form the "jacket", dip each side of berry into chocolate from the tip of the strawberry to the top of vanilla coating (see Fig. 2). Repeat on the other side, leaving a white "v" in the center (see Fig. 3). Set aside remaining chocolate. Chill berries for 30 minutes or until set.
Remelt reserved chocolate if necessary. If using a plastic bag, cut a small hole in the bottom comer. Insert pastry tip if desired, or you may pipe directly from bag. Fill plastic or pastry bag with melted chocolate. Pipe a "bow tie" at the top of the white "v" and two or three buttons down the front of the 1/ shirt" (see Fig. 4). Chill for 30 minutes or until set.
Completed strawberries may be stored in the refrigerator in a covered plastic container for 1 day.
