Low fat, low cholesterol Biscuit Recipe for Pets, Pals and People

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 cup powdered dry milk (or soy milk powder)
  • 1/2 cup wheat germ
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 6 T margarine or other shortening
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp brown sugar
  • For flavor variety and color add 1 cup mashed or pureed cooked vegetables such as carrots (if you decide not to use the vegetables, substitute water. Add gradually as needed to make a stiff dough).

Preparation

Step 1

Combine white flour, wheat flour, powdered milk, wheat germ and salt in a large bowl.

Cut in shortening until mixture resembles corn meal.

Beat the sugar with the egg, stir into flour mixture. Add the mashed vegetables gradually to make a stiff dough.

Knead on a flour surface until dough is smooth and pliable. Roll into 1/4” thickness and cut with cutters. Bake at 325 degrees until lightly browned, about 30 minutes.
