Ingredients

    cup butter (no substitutes), melted

  • 2

    cups all-purpose flour

  • 1/2

    cup water

  • 1

    (8-oz) can almond paste

  • 1

    cup sugar

  • 2

    eggs

  • 1/2

    teaspoon vanilla

Directions

Make pastry. Cut butter into flour until mixture is crumbly. Stir in water and mix well. Cut the dough in half. Wrap each half in waxed paper and refrigerate several hours or overnight. Let dough stand at room temperature until it is just soft enough to handle. Pre-heat oven to 400. Make filling. Crumble almond past into mixing bowl. Add sugar, eggs, and vanilla. Mix well. On lightly floured surface, roll 1/2 of softened dough into a rectangle large enough to line the bottom and sides of a 13" x 9" x 2" pan. Spread filling over dough. Roll out remaining dough into a rectangle to fit over the top of the filled pastry. Seal edges tightly. Bake 30 - 35 minutes or until lightly browned. Cool completely beofre cutting.
