Ingredients

  • 1 1/3 cup uncooked white long-grain rice
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 5 cups water, divided
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/3 - 2/3 cup white sugar

Preparation

Step 1

Pour the rice, 2 cups water and cinnamon sticks into a blender; blend until the rice just begins to break up, about 1 minute. Add remaining 3 cups water and blend thoroughly. Pour into a container and soak overnight.

Strain the rice water through a sieve into a pitcher and discard the rice. Stir the milk, vanilla, and sugar into the rice water. Chill and stir before serving over ice.
