Old Fashioned Cream of tomato Soup

Ingredients
- 14 1/2 oz can chicken broth
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 2 T. chopped green or red pepper
- 1/4 c. chopped celery
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1/4 t. pepper
- 14 1/2 oz. can stewed or reg. tomatoes
- 10 3/4 oz can condensed tomato soup
- 1 T. sugar
- 1 c. half and half
- 1/2 c. milk
- 1 1/2 T. butter

Preparation
Step 1
1. In a lg. saucepan, combine the chicken broth and the onion, green pepper, celery, garlic and pepper. Bring to boiling. Reduce heat and simmer uncovered for 6 min, or until vegetables are tender.
2. Add the undrained tomatoes , condensed tomato soup and sugar.
3. Bring mixture to boiling, Reduce heat and simmer, uncovered, for 20 min.
4. Stir in the half and half, milk, and butter. Heat through. 4-5 servings
Can make base ahead and freeze. Then thaw and add cream and milk when you want to serve. Do not freeze with cream in it.
Can also add 2-3 T. pesto for pesto tomato soup.
