Chocolate Italian Cream Cake

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup crisco
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 5 eggs separated
  • 2 cups sifted flour
  • 1/4 cup cocoa
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 cup coconut
  • 1/2 to 1 cup pecans
  • ICING
  • 1 box powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup cocoa
  • 8oz cream cheese
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Preparation

Step 1

CAKE
beat egg whites until stiff, set aside
cream crisco, butter and sugar
add egg yolks, one at a time
sift flour, soda, ad cocoa together
add to mixture alternately with buttermilk
add vanilla and nuts
then fold in egg whites
bake at 325*
ICING
cream margarine and cheese
add sugar, cocoa and vanilla
add nuts if desired
put between layers and on top ad sides of cake
