Tidewater Clam Chowder

Ingredients

  • 8 large white potatoes
  • 2 large bermuda onions
  • 1 celery stalk
  • 3 carrots
  • 1 16-oz can tomatoes
  • 4 slices bacon, cooked crisp
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1 Tbs seafood seasoning
  • 2 Tbs Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 dozen medium to large steamer-sized clams

Preparation

Step 1

Dice the vegetables and bacon, place in a large pot and cover with water. Add seasonings, bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer until vegetables are tender.

Meanwhile, open the clams and chop (preferably while still frozen), reserving all juice. Measure clams and juice and add to vegetables with an equal amount of water. Bring to a boil and simmer until done, about 10 minutes. Adjust seasonings. to taste.
