Ingredients
- 1/2 cup good quality rice
- 5 cups water
- 1 - 12 oz. can evaporated milk
- 1 - 14 oz. can sweetened condensed milk
- a pinch of saffron
- 6 crushed cardamom pods
- 1 1/2 cups in all of almonds, brazil nuts, cashew nuts, and dates, all finely slivered
- 1/2 cup raisins
Preparation
Step 1
Bring the rice and water to a boil.Reduce heat to the lowest point, cover, and cook until the rice is very soft and sticky. This should take about 30 minutes. Remove from heat. Set aside to cool.
When cool, mash with a potato masher.
Add all the other ingredients, mix well, and bring to a boil in a very heavy saucepan. Stir, lower heat to the lowest point, and simmer for 10 minutes.
Serve hot or chilled.
