Beef Brisket in Beer

  • 3-4 lb. brisket
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 1/4 cup chili sauce
  • 2 T brown sugar
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 (12 oz.) can beer
  • 2 T flour
  • salt & pepper to taste

Preparation

Step 1

Trim excess fat from brisket, then season the brisket with salt and pepper. Place brisket in a 9x13 inch baking pan. Cover with sliced onions. In a small bowl, combine the chili sauce, brown sugar, garlic and beer. Pour over brisket and cover pan with foil. Bake at 350 degrees for three hours. Uncover and bake for an additional 30 minutes, basting occasionally with the juices. Remove meat from pan and skim excess fat from the drippings. Measure out the drippings into a measuring cup and add water to make 1 cup of liquid. Pour into a saucepan. Blend the flour with an additional 1/2 cup of water and add to the saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until thick and bubbly. To serve, cut the meat across the grain and serve it with gravy.
