Apple Cobbler

Ingredients
- 2 cups sugar
- 2 cups water
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/4 lb. butter
- 2 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 3/4 cups shortening
- 1/2 cup sweet milk
- 8 apples, peeled and sliced (Rome Beauty, Macintosh, Jonathan, Yellow Delicious)

Preparation
Step 1
Bring sugar, water, spices and butter to boil.
Blend flour, salt and baking powder. Cut in shortening until texture of coarse corn meal. Mix in sweet milk. Split dough in half. Roll out first section approximately the size of a 9x13 inch pan. Cut into 2-inch wide strips. Put half of the apples in bottom of pan, layer dough strips on top. Place remainder of apple slices on top of the layered strips. Roll out remainder of dough approximate size of pan, cut air vents to allow steam to escape.
Pour boiling mixture over crust. Bake at 375 degrees until crust is brown and apples are tender.
