RIA'S TURKEY STUFFING

Ingredients

  • 1 large loaf of white bread - like Wonder
  • 1 pkg (12oz) Jimmy Dean sausage - I use the reduced fat or the sage flavored
  • 1 onion minced
  • 2 stalks of celery, minced
  • 1 stick of butter
  • 1 egg
  • milk
  • salt and pepper

Preparation

Step 1

Lay the bread on the the kitchen counter the night before to get stale.

Brown the sausage in a skillet, then add the onion and celery ans saute until the vegetables start to wilt.

Lover heat and cut up the butter into chunks. Put in the skillet to melt.

Meanwhile, beat the egg with some milk in a large bowl or pot. (Eyeball the milk for the egg, probably about 1/2 c.) Cube the stale bread. Add about 4 slices of bread, milk and a little salt and pepper to the egg mixture. (Add a little more milk each time you add bread, just to keep it moist. Do not over do it, as the meat mixture will add a lot of moisture. Error on the dry side, you can always add a little before you put it in the bird or bake it. The bread should feel firm, not soggy so it retains the cubed look.

When all the bread is in the bowl, add the sausage mixture. Mix. Use to stuff a bird or bake in a casserole.
