Preparation

Step 1

Inspired by Jeff Novick's fast food burgers! These Healthy Hearts are delicious and easy to make. Put them in a silicone heart shape mold to make them heart shaped. You can use Siracha or fill up a inexpensive ketchup container (you can get them at the dollar store) with BBQ sauce, or tomato sauce to outline the hearts.

Ingredients:
1 can no- salt added kidney beans
1 can no-salt added chickpeas
2 cups chopped mushrooms
1 cup chopped onions
2 tbs bbq sauce : the best sauces are usually locally made, be sure it is oil free.
2 cups old fashioned oats
1 tbs garlic/herb spice blend

Directions:
Pre-heat oven to 350 deg. F
In a frying pan, cook mushrooms and onions until they are done. You can add a little water if you need to.
Drain water from kidney beans and chickpeas and mash them.
In a bowl add mashed beans, 2 cups of oats, 2 tbs of bbq sauce, spices, onions and mushrooms.
Mix together well.
Put mixture in your muffin molds- fill to top and pack down.
If you are using a silicone mold you will want to put the mold on top of a cookie sheet before placing it in the oven.
Bake for 45 minutes.
Serve with tomato sauce, bbq sauce or ketchup.
