Ingredients
- 1 teaspoon Dry Yeast
- 1/2 teaspoon Sugar
- 2 cups Plain Bread Flour, plus extra to knead
- 1 teaspoon Salt
- 1 tablespoon Vegetable or Olive Oil
- 1 tablespoon Plain Flour, extra to dust
Preparation
Step 1
Combine 1/2 cup lukewarm water, yeast and sugar in a small bowl. Half fill sink with warm water; stand bowl in water for 10 minutes or until yeast mixture is frothy. Replace water.
Sift bread flour and salt into a large bowl. Make a well in teh centre; stir in yeast mixture, oil and 1 cup lukewarm water (mixture is wet).
Place dough in a large oiled bowl; cover with plastic wrap. Stand in warm water for 45 minutes or until dough has double in size.
Knead dough on a floured surface for 2-3 minutes or until smooth. Use fingertips to knead for 5 mins (dough will be very sticky; dont add too much flour while kneading)
Place on a lightly greased baking tray; shape into a 30cm loaf. Dust top generously with extra flour.
Using a small knife, make 6 small cuts diagnolly across the top of the loaf.
Place in a cold oven. Turn oven to 170 fan forced. Bake for 45 mins or until crusty and golden brown.
