Preparation

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 400F.

2.Place a cookie rack over a baking sheet.

3.Lay the bacon strips on the rack, and put the rack and sheet in the oven.

4.Cook for 10-20 minutes, depending on how crispy you like your bacon.

5.Devour yourself, or hand over to delighted guests/family/nosy neighbors.

A few helpful tips, gleaned from the massive hivemind of Allrecipes members.

•If you don’t have a cookie rack, you can put the bacon right on the baking sheet that’s been lined with crumpled foil (the crumply topography helps the bacon drain better and stay crisper).

•Ovens differ. You’ll probably need to do this a few times to find the right time/temperature for yours. But once you do? It’s easy bacon any day of the week!

•This from Cindy Capps Lepp: Lay a layer of foil over the bacon; this will keep grease from spitting all over the oven. Remove the foil for the last few minutes of cooking for “final crisping.” (Good name for my next album!)

•Some cooks find that turning the bacon halfway through helps both sides crisp.

•Says one kelleyp: If you like a leaner bacon, don’t preheat the oven. The heating stage will help render more fat from the bacon.

•After cooking, save that bacon grease for later. (It’s dead easy to just tip the baking sheet and pour it out.)
