    cup all-purpose flour

    cup whole wheat flour

    tsp baking soda

  • ½

    tsp salt

    Tb ground ginger

    tsp ground cinnamon

    /2 tsp ground cloves

  • ½

    tsp ground nutmeg

  • ½

    tsp allspice

  • 1

    tsp cocoa powder

  • ½

    cup vegetable oil

  • ½

    cup applesauce

  • ¾

    cup molasses

  • cup sugar

  • ½

    cup buttermilk

  • ½

    cup milk

  • 1

    large egg

Directions

Directions: 1.) Heat oven to 350 degrees. Grease the bottom and sides of a 11″x7″ baking dish with butter or spray oil; dust with flour, tapping out the excess. 2.) Combine flours, baking soda, salt, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, allspice and cocoa and whisk together. 3.) Beat oil, applesauce, molasses, sugar, buttermilk, milk, and egg in a large bowl with an electric mixer until thoroughly combined. 4.) Add the dry ingredients and beat until batter is smooth, about 1 minute, scraping sides of bowl with a rubber spatula as needed. 5.) Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake in the preheated oven for about 40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out mostly clean. Let the gingerbread cool for about 10 minutes and then serve warm (my favorite!) or cool completely and serve at room temperature. Dollop with whipped cream if you want a little flair to your presentation.
