Ingredients

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup white corn syrup
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 cups raw peanuts
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons soda

Preparation

Step 1

Mix first four ingredients and bring to a boil. Cover and boil for 3 minutes.
Remove cover and boil to 250 degrees, or to a hard-ball stage, then add butter and peanuts.
Cook slowly to 300 degrees, or to a hard-crack stage, then stir vanilla and soda into mixture quickly. Pour onto greased slab or platter.. Let stand for 1 minute or so, then turn over like a pancake, and pull from edges to desired thichness.

Pecans may be substituted for peanuts.
