Crumb Coated Cube Steaks

Ingredients

  • GRAVY:
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 23 saltines,crushed
  • 2/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 tsp.salt
  • 1/4 tsp.baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp.cayenne pepper
  • 1/4 tsp.pepper
  • 4 beef cube steaks
  • 3 Tbsp.canola oil
  • 2 Tbsp.all-purpose flour
  • 1-1/3 cups milk
  • 1/4 tsp.salt
  • 1/4 tsp.pepper

Preparation

Step 1

In ashallow bowl,whisk egg and milk.In another shallow bowl,combine the cracker crumbs,flour,salt,baking powder,cayenne and pepper.Dip steaks in egg mixture,then cracker crumb mixture.

In a large skillet,cook steaks in oil over medium heat for3-4minutes on each side or until no longer pink.Remove keep warm.

In the same skillet,stir in flour until blended,stirring to loosen browned bits from pan.Gradually add milk.Bring to a broil;cook and stir for 2 minutes or until thickened.Sprinkle with salt and pepper.
