  • 1/2 c shortening
  • 1/3 c sugar
  • 1 c molasses
  • 3/4 c hot water
  • 1 tsp.baking soda
  • 1 tsp.ginger
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. ground cloves
  • 3/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 large egg

. Combine all ingredients and mix thoroughly

. Divide evenly between 2 bread pans and bake at 350 degrees, check for doneness with a skewer,

. Let cool for 5-10 minutes, turn out of pan and let stand until completely cool, slice to desired thickness
