Ingredients
- 5 pounds beef brisket, flat half
- 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 5 cups onions, cut up
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon Hungarian paprika
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 teaspoon pepper
Preparation
Step 1
1. Heat oven to 375.
2. Heat 1 tb oil in pan 10 mins. Pat brisket dry and season. Roast 30 mins in hot oil.
3. Saute onion in 2 tb oil until golden. Add garlic-s&p. cook 1 min. Add 3 cups water. Bring to boil. Spoon over brisket, bake - covered with lid 1/2" ajar, 3 1/2 hours or until tender. Check pan every hour to add more water as necessary. Let cool 1 hour.
4. Scrape off onions and chill separately with brisket overnight.
5. Heat oven to 350.
6. Discard fat from onions. Puree. Slice brisket, heat 30 mins with onion gravy.
OVERNIGHT
The perfect brisket recipe in my opinion. Easy and straightforward and creates the perfect texture. Just have to prep the night before.
