Ingredients
- Cake:
- 3 oz unsweetened chocolate, finely chopped
- 2.25 C sifted cake flour
- 2 t baking soda
- 1/2 t salt
- 1 stick salted butter, softened
- 2.25 C packed light brown sugar
- 3 large eggs, room tep
- 1.5 t vanilla
- 1 C sour cream
- 1 C boiling water
- Frosting:
- 8 oz unsweetened chocolate, finely chopped
- 1 C unsalted butter, softened
- 2 Pounds convectioners sugar
- 1 C heavy cream
- 4 t vanilla extract
- 6 oz milk chocolate chips
- 1 package chocolate kisses for garinsh around top rim of cake
Preparation
Step 1
Preheat oven to 350. Butter and flour 3 9" cake pans.
Cake:
Melt chocolate in double boiler; set aside to cool slightly. Which together flour, baking soda and salt. In a large bowl with electric mixer, cream the butter. Add the sugar and then the eggs one at a time. Beat in vanilla and melted chocolate. Beat in the flour mix alternately with sour cream in 4 portions. Stir in the boiling water and pour the batter at once into pans. Bake for 35 min or until done. Cool 10 min then remove from pan and cool completely.
Icing: Melt chocolate and butter. In med bowl with mixer, blend confectioners sugar, cream, vanilla. Add the cooled chocolate mixture and beat on low until blended. Place in refrigerator until thick and firm, yet still easy to spread (about 20-30 min).
