Ingredients
- 2 refrigerated pie crusts, room temperature
- 4 med. granny smith apples, cored, peeled and sliced thin
- 4 med haralson apples, cored, peeled and sliced thin (bought at target)
- 1/2 cup plus 2 tbs white sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 4-5 tbs all purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon ground clove
- Pinch of salt
- 1/2 lemon, squeezed
- 5-6 tbs evaporated milk, for brushing
- 3 tablespoons ,or more to taste ,Caramel ice cream topping (optional)
Preparation
Step 1
Preheat oven to 425 degrees
Unwrap 1 pie crust and place into glass pie pan, pressing gently into bottom and sides of pan
Peel and core apples. Cut into thin slices and dump into a large bowl.
Dump in all the spices, sugars, flour and lemon juice.
Mix with hands until every apple slice is coated.try a slice of apple and see how you like it
Dump all the coated apples into pie pan that is lined with pie crust
Take second pie crust and cut into strips with pizza cutter and create lattice top on apples.
Wrap excess top crust under bottom crust edge, pressing together to seal and flute
Brush top and edge of lattice top with evaporated milk. Then evenly sprinkle with 2 tbs white sugar.
Bake for about 45 min, watching that top doesn't get too brown.
If top gets too brown, place ,not wrap or press,a piece of tin foil over pie.
If you wish to add caramel sauce, drizzle all over pie while still hot. Cool and serve :)
