HOMEMADE TOMATO SAUCE

Ingredients

  • 1 large onion, chopped (1 cup)
  • 1 clove garlic, finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1 can (2 pounds, 3 ounces) Italian-stle whole tomatoes, with their liquid
  • 1 can (6 oz) tomato paste
  • 2 tsps leaf basil, crumbled
  • 1 tsp salt
  • Dash sugar
  • 1 cup water

Preparation

Step 1

Saute onion and garlic in oil in large saucepan until tender.

Stir in tomatoes with their liquid, breaking up tomatoes with a spoon, tomato paste, basil, salt, sugar and water.

Bring to boiling; lower heat; simmer, uncovered, stirring frequently, for 30 minutes or until sauce has thickened.
