Homemade Apple Crisp

Ingredients

  • Crumb Topping
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup of rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • Apple Filling
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 Granny Smith apples
  • 2 red apples such as Rayburn or Red Delicious (apples should be peeled, cored, and chopped)
  • 2 tablespoon corn starch + 2 tablespoons of water

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a medium sized bowl combine 1 cup flour, 1 cup brown sugar, rolled oats, 1/2 cup butter, and 1 teaspoon cinnamon. With a fork combine the mixture until it it becomes uniform and crumbly. Set aside.

In a large pot over medium heat combine 1 cup water, 1 cup sugar, vanilla, lemon juice, and stir to combine. Add peeled, cored, and chopped apples to the pot and mix well. In a small dish combine 2 tablespoons water and 2 tablespoons corn starch. Stir corn starch until smooth add to the pot with the apples. When the mixture thickens remove from heat.

Pour apples into a 9 x 14 inch oval baking dish. Top with crumb topping. Bake for approximately 1 hour or until the topping browns.
