Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 cups flour
  • 11/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 baking soda
  • 1 large egg beaten
  • 11/2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup white sesame
  • 6 cups oil (for frying)

Preparation

Step 1

in a small pot, add the water and sugar, melt the sugar using medium fire to male a syrup. Put aside to cool.
Sieve all the dry ingredients in a large bowl, dig a hole in the middle of the dry ingredients, and add in the egg and the oil. Pour some of the syrup into the hole and fill the hole with the flour, then add some more syrup, and fill in with flour again till a dough is formed. Rub the dough gently to form it, but do not knead or it will cause the texture to toughen)

Roll the dough into bite sized balls
Dip the balls into water and then cover it in a plate of sesame
Heat up a deep pan on high fire, add in the oil and lower to medium heat.
Fry some of the dumplings in the oil and stir non stop to avoid burning the dumpling
As the dumpling is cooking in the oil, it will break on the surface, lower till small fire and fry till no more breaks on the dumpling, and it is golden brown
Dry the dumpling on a paper towel till completely cooled, store in air tight tins for up to one week
