Ingredients
- Dumplings:
- Cooked chicken of your choice
- 2 cups onion
- 1 stick butter
- 4 tbsp. Hungarian paprika (I use half Hungarian and half smoked)
- 1 quart (4 cups) half & half
- 16 oz. sour cream
- 1/2 cup flour
- Seasoning salt and pepper
- 2 cups flour
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 cup whole milk
- 4 tbsp vegetable oil
Preparation
Step 1
Cook chicken of your choice (I like to cook a whole chicken in the crockpot and shred it). Melt butter and saute onions. Add paprika and stir until blended. Add the salt, pepper, (I add about a cup of the liquid that the chicken cooked in to this also). In a blender, prepare a thickening of flour and 1 cup of the half & half. Add remainder of the half & half to the pan. Stir in the chicken. Add sour cream. Heat, but do not boil. Serve over dumplings.
Dumpling directions:
Mix the ingredients until well blended. Turn onto a floured surface. Knead four or five times and dived dough into two parts. Roll out one piece of dough to 1/8" thick and cut into strips. Place into a large sauce pan that you have placed 8 cups of water and chicken base (or bouillon cubes). Cook dumplings until just above done and strain and set aside. Cook the rest of the dumplings in the same way.
