Butter Pecan Bread

Mason jar mix. Layer the ingredients in a 1 quart wide-mouth canning jar. Include a card that gives instructions for preparation.
Ingredients
- 1 cup chopped pecans
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 teas cinnamon
- 1/4 teas nutmeg
- 1/2 teas baking soda
- 1/2 teas salt
- 2 teas baking powder
- 2 1/4 cups all purpose flour.
Preparation
Step 1
1. Wash and thoroughly dry a 1-quart wide-mouth canning jar.
2. Layer the ingredients in the jar as shown at left, pressing firmly with a flat-bottomed object, such as a tart tamper or the bottom of a narrow glass, after each addition. Make the layers as level as possible.
3. Secure the lid, and decorate as desired. Attach the instructions for making the bread found below.
INSTRUCTIONS:
Yield: 9-inch loaf
In addition to the contents of the jar, you will need to add the following ingredients:
1 cup buttermilk
2 tblsp butter, softened
1 egg, slightly beaten
Preheat the oven to 350. In a large bowl, cream the buttermilk, butter, and egg. Add the contents of the jar, and stir until just mixed. Do not overstir. Pour the batter into a greased 9x5 inch loaf pan. Bake for 50 to 55 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the loaf comes out clean. cool 10 minutes in the pan, then remove the bread and cool completely on a wire rack. Serve immediately, or store in an airtight container for up to 1 week.
