Welsh Tea Cookies

Ingredients

  • 2 C flour
  • pinch cream of tartar
  • 2 t baking pwdr
  • 3/4 t nutmeg (if ground fresh, use .5)
  • 1/2 t salt
  • 3/4 C shortening
  • 3/4 C sugar
  • 1 c currants
  • 1 egg beaten
  • milk

Preparation

Step 1

Sift first 5 ingredients together in bowl and cut in shortening. Add sugar, currants, egg and enough milk to make a stiff dough and mix well. Refigerate until chilled. Roll out on a flowered surface and cut with cookie cutter. Bake on griddle over medium heat until brown.
