MOLASSES COOKIES

Ingredients

  • 3/4 C. butter, softened (1 1/2 sticks)
  • 1 C. sugar
  • 1 lg. egg
  • 1/4 C. light molasses
  • 2 C. all-purpose flour
  • 2 t. baking soda
  • 1 t. ground cinnamon
  • 11/2 t. ground cloves
  • 1/4 t. salt
  • 1 t. vanilla
  • sugar for rolling

Preparation

Step 1

Cream butter and sugar in lg. mixer bowl until light and fluffy. Beat in egg, molasses, flour, baking soda, ground cinnamon, cloves, vanilla and salt, one at a time. Dough will be soft. Turn out of bowl and wrap in plastic or wax paper. Refrigerate 1 hour. Heat oven to 375 degrees. Form dough into lg. walnut-size balls. Roll in granulated sugar. Put 2 in. apart on well-greased baking sheets. Bake until brown, 8 to 10 minutes. Let sit a few minutes before removing cookies. Cool on wire racks.
