Ingredients
- 1 cup flour
- 1 cup whole wheat flour
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 3/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 3 Tbsp shortening
- 1 cup buttermilk or yogurt

Step 1
Sift dry ingredients. Cut in shortening. Add buttermilk all at once. Stir. Turn out on floured board and knead a half minute. Roll or pat to 1/2 inch thickness. Cut with biscuit cutter. Bake on ungreased sheet at 450 for 10-12 minutes.
Note: To make drop biscuits use 1-1/3 cups buttermilk. The biscuits can be dropped by heaping tablespoonfuls onto a greased baking sheet or used as a topping for meat pies and thick stews. About 1/4 cup sugar can be added to the batter to make a great dumpling.
