Inspired by the Up-to-Date, a WWI-era cocktail, this drink becomes a warming after-ski treat with the addition of spicy Orangerie.

Ingredients
- For Ginger Simple Syrup:
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 large piece ginger, cut into thin rounds
- For Cocktail:
- 2 ounces Orangerie
- 1/2 ounce Amontillado Sherry
- 1/2 ounce ginger simple syrup (see above)
- 1 dash Angostura bitters
- ice
- one or two large ice cubes
- orange slice, for garnish

Preparation
Step 1
To Make Ginger Simple Syrup:
In a small saucepan, combine water and sugar. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring to dissolve sugar. Add ginger and return to a simmer. Remove from heat and let steep 30 minutes. Strain through a fine sieve, let cool and refrigerate.
To Make Cocktail:
Stir Orangerie, Amontillado Sherry, ginger simple syrup and Angostura bitters in a shaker full of ice. Strain into a tumbler over large ice cubes. Garnish with an orange slice.
