Ingredients

    lb chopped beef

  • 1/4

    c uncooked rice

  • 1

    egg

  • 1

    grated onion

  • 1

    carrot grated

  • 10-12

    cabbage leaves

  • 1/4

    c lemon juice

  • 1/2

    c brown sugar

  • 1

    c tomato sauce

  • water to cover

Directions

Combined chopped meat, rice, egg, onion, carrot. Salt to taste. Blanch cabbage leaves in boiling water 2-3 min, drain. Place a ball of meat mixture in the center of each leaf, roll and tuck ends in securely and place in a heavy frying pan. In a bowl, mix lemon juice, sugar, tomato sauce and water. Pour over cabbage, adding water to cover as necessary. Cook 30-40 min at 350 degrees f--tips will brown, turn once to brown tips as desired.
