Ingredients

  • Flauta Sauce:
  • Flautas
  • 1 1/2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 1 small garlic clove, minced
  • 1 4 0z can mild green chilies, chopped
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Grated cheddar or Mexican Mix cheese
  • White flour tortillas (a healthy substitute is wheat tortillas)
  • 1 can (15 or 16 oz) tomatoes (chopped/diced)
  • 1 medium onion, minced/finely chopped
  • 1 1/2 tsp oregano
  • 1 TBS vinegar
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 2 cans (4 oz) green chilies, chopped. Use mild/hot to your taste.

Step 1

Flautas:
Brown hamburger until almost done. Add onion and cook until meet is done and onion is tender. Drain excess grease. Add garlic, chilies and salt/pepper.

Wrap a portion of the meat mixture, along with some grated cheese (to taste) in a tortilla and place it in a baking dish/pan. Continue wrapping flautas until all the meat mixture is used (line them up side-by-side in the baking pan).

Top wrapped flautas with more cheese and flauta sauce (directions below).
Bake in a 325-350 degrees F oven for about 15-20 minutes or until cheese is fully melted.

Top with sour cream and/or guacamole

Flauta Sauce:
Combine all ingredients for the sauce in a sauce pan and heat to boiling. Stir often to avoid sauce sticking to bottom of pan.
